Background overview

EcoVista partnered with Limited Space, a leading retail and lifestyle destination media owner, to support the ongoing upgrade of its premium UK shopping mall portfolio.

As part of a wider digital investment strategy, Limited Space is enhancing its Orbit network – a collection of high-impact, large-format digital screens across some of the UK’s busiest retail destinations, including Metrocentre, Eldon Square and Manchester Arndale.

These environments attract millions of visitors each year, offering brands a powerful platform to connect with audiences at scale. The programme focuses on modernising legacy infrastructure to deliver greater visual impact, improved efficiency and a future-ready retail media estate.

Clients challenge

The brief centred on replacing existing display technology within live retail environments, without disrupting trading or advertising revenue.

Existing installations included earlier-generation LCD video walls and LED displays, often housed within heavy structural frameworks and, in some cases, large glass enclosures that required careful removal and disposal.

Working overnight in high-footfall locations, EcoVista needed to retain and adapt elements of the existing infrastructure while delivering a step-change in performance, durability and energy efficiency. Speed was critical, with installations required in tight windows to avoid any loss of media revenue.

Our solution

EcoVista delivered a streamlined refurbishment approach, upgrading multiple sites using Absen’s latest XL1.5 Chip-on-Board (COB) LED technology – marking the first installations of the product in the UK.

Rather than starting from scratch, the team repurposed existing structural frameworks, introducing bespoke aluminium bracket systems to support the new LED displays. This reduced installation time, minimised material waste and improved overall efficiency.

The Absen XL1.5 COB displays feature an ultra-fine 1.5mm pixel pitch, delivering exceptional image clarity, richer colour and a significant uplift in visual impact. Measuring approximately 3m x 2m, the large-format screens maximise visibility within busy retail walkways.

COB technology was selected for its suitability in public-facing environments. The LED surface is fully encapsulated, making it robust, touchable and resistant to damage – ideal for low-level installations in high-traffic areas. Existing interactive capabilities were also retained, enabling touch-based engagement.

EcoVista worked closely with Absen as a value-added partner, selecting a solution that balanced performance, durability and commercial viability. A new control system was implemented across each site to ensure reliable, long-term content delivery.

The
result

The upgraded displays deliver a clear step-change in visual quality and resilience across Limited Space’s Orbit network, reinforcing its position as one of the UK’s most impactful retail media platforms.

All installations were completed within tight overnight windows, ensuring no disruption to trading and no loss of advertising revenue.

The result is a future-ready digital estate capable of supporting high-impact campaigns across flagship destinations – combining large-format scale with the flexibility of digital content.

For Limited Space, the investment strengthens the long-term value and sustainability of its portfolio, while creating a more engaging platform for brands to connect with millions of shoppers each week.
